Barry's Biography

Barry Kingston is a musician, acclaimed as a guitarist, singer, and youth minister, living near the Springfield, Massachusetts. He started his music career teaming with his brother Chris to form The Breakdown. The band went on to have a brush with critical acclaim, MTV exposure, and a major label record deal behind the single "Standing in the Fire". The band recorded and released a number of indpendent EPs. Barry has since developed his gifts as a musician and songwriter to lead a life of Catholic Youth Ministry. He founded, with his friend Pat Sears, New Spirit Inc. New Spirit runs approximately 100 retreats for young adults around the New England area each year.Barry has also promoted an eclectic solo career. He has recorded five studio albums and one live album. The albums have all been helmed by producer Danny Bernini.

Barry AcousticUpon the Mountain was an collection of early recordings showing the development of Barry's songwriting to include more personal and spiritual subjects. Classic rock influenced songs like "Let the Rain Begin", are mixed with acoustic ballads like "Maria".

Nothing But Real was an all out rock album, and featured the debut of Barry's backing band The Screaming Souls. The album kicks off with the eavy rocking "Nothing But Real" and only let's up for the highly requested "Sweet Love", and the critical ballad "I Question You."

Shakin'from theTreesShakin' from the Trees was released nationally on J-Bird Records. It received critical acclaim and attention from the music industry. Songs were used on soundtracks for MTV's The Real World, and as part of the broadcast on the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. This eclectic rock album included hits like "I Can't Do It Alone", "Padlock Jody", and the title track, the politically charged "Shakin' from the Trees". One of Barry's most intimate songs was recorded for this album. The acoustic "Purple Sky" became the most requested song by Barry fans of all time.

Split Wide OpenSplit Wide Open opens Barry's somngwriting to new influences. Combining the rock sounds that anchor Barry's songwriting, he also incorporates successful experiments in reggae and hip hop. The album features the barn burner "Fire & Gasoline", the groove filled "Yellow Slide", and the reggae- rock ballad "Eyes of Love". A rhythmical tour de-force "Tahitian Brown Gypsy Girl" closes the album on a high note.

Pass It On CDAll the albums have received regional acclaim and wide sales. Barry's concerts were becoming high energy celebrations of music and spirit. Catching Barry's musical development is the Live CD/DVD "Pass It On". Along with new arrangements of his greatest hits, Barry performed several new songs. Popular in concert songs "New Spirit: Keep on Movin'", "Holla Back", and "Real Thing" came alive on this album.

The MessageThe Message is an album in response to requests from some of his quieter, more spiritual songs. The acoustic album is anchored by the title track, which Barry speaks directly from the heart and spirit.

Not to be overlooked, Barry's backing band since Nothing But Real - The Screaming Souls - are the cavalry of supporting a great general. Backing Barry in concerts at clubs, colleges, high schools, church halls, and festivals around the Northeast, the Screaming Souls have consisted of a rotating cast of the best musicians from around New England. Past and present Screaming Souls included Jason Arnold (drums), Joe Boyle (guitar), John O'Boyle (bass), John Mulkerin (trumpet), Tony Derricotte (bass), Eric Olsson (guitar), Makaya McCraven (drums and percussion), Darby Conley (Hammond B3 Organ and Clavinet), Glen Robertson (drums).

Barry & WyclefHighlights of his solo career include supporting and sharing the stage with Wyclef Jean, playing outside Foxboro Stadium as part of World Catholic Youth Day, and opening for Bob Marley & the Wailers.

In 2007, Barry reunited with his younger brother Chris, to record a new album of original music with a classic rock sound. It is the two brother's first musical collaboration since leading the Breakdown to success.
